0% GST Slab: Many big decisions were taken in the GST Council. Giving relief to the general public, many essential goods and services have been included in the 0% GST slab. This will have a direct impact on everyday life.

Let us tell you that now there will be no tax on food items like milk, cheese and bread to books and stationery items used in schools. This is because these items have been removed from the scope of GST slab. Apart from this, life saving medicines have also been completely exempted from GST. Also, now there will be no GST on life insurance and health insurance, which will give great relief to insurance customers. Let’s check the complete list of all goods and services coming under 0% GST-

Food and daily necessities

  • Ultra-high temperature (UHT) milk
  • Paneer
  • Indian breads (roti, paratha, khakhra etc.)
  • Some essential food items which were earlier taxed at 5% are now completely tax free.

Education & Stationery Items

  • Pencil, pen, eraser, sharpener
  • Crayons, chalk, pastels
  • Exercise Books, Lab Notebooks, Graph Books
  • Maps, Atlases and Globes

Medicines and health related items

  • 33 life saving medicines
  • Medicines used in the treatment of cancer
  • medicines for rare diseases

Other essential medicines, which earlier attracted 5–12% GST.

Insurance Services

  • Life Insurance
  • Health Insurance

Earlier 18% GST was levied on these, now they are completely free from GST.

Why this decision was taken

Now food, medicines, educational material and insurance services – all these have been made tax free. This will reduce the burden on the pockets of the common man and essential services and goods will be available at cheaper rates. The objective of these decisions is to make essential goods and services even cheaper and accessible, as well as reduce the tax burden on the pockets of the common people.
