Big relief for Indians living abroad, will be able to renew driving license even while living there

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has said that it has been found that if a citizen is living abroad and in the meantime the period of International Driving Permit ends, then there is no system for renewal.

If you are living abroad and you are worrying about getting a driving license renewed in your country, then there is a relief news for you. You will now be able to renew your driving license easily while living abroad. The government is now going to simplify the process in such cases. According to the news of IANS, now there is also a preparation to remove the terms of Visa and Medical Certificate for International Driving Permit (IDP).

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has prepared to make the renewal (renewal) process easier when the period of the International Driving Permit (IDP) of such citizens expires while living abroad. An amendment to the Central Motor Vehicles Act, 1989 is proposed for this.

The government has also sought suggestions from the people for this amendment. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has said that it has been found that if a citizen is living abroad and in the meantime the period of International Driving Permit is over, then there is no system for his renewal.




To facilitate such citizens, a proposal has been made to amend the CMVR 1989. Citizens can apply through the Indian Embassy or Mission Abroad Portals and after this the application will be sent to the concerned RTO.

The removal of the conditions of Visa and Medical Certificate for International Driving Permit (IDP) will provide relief. Because citizens who have a Certified Driving License, they should not need another medical certificate. Apart from this, there are some countries where Visa on Arrival and in such cases visa is not available while applying for IDP in India before traveling.

The ministry has also sought suggestions from people in this regard. Notification of suggestions can be sent to Joint Secretary (MVLIT & Toll) Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, Transport Bhawan, Parliament Street, New Delhi within 30 days of issue.
