Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) Member (Legislation) RN Prabhat said that the digital data taken by the Income Tax Department officials during the search will be used only within the ambit of data protection law and other laws.
In the new Income Tax law, officers have been given the right to take laptops, e-mails and other digital documents during the search. The new Income Tax law has been notified. It will be implemented from April 1, 2026.

Giving information about the new law, Prabhat said that guidelines will be made regarding the use of digital documents that will be taken for further investigation in the search and they will be used only within the scope of data protection law and other laws. Soon the government is going to implement the data protection law as well.
What will be the benefit of the new income tax law?
He said that when the new tax law comes into effect, it will be easy for everyone from businessmen to salaried people to understand and implement the provisions. There are also preparations to change the format of the quarterly forms related to income tax returns and TDS. Income tax officers are also being trained.
He said that the main objective of the government was to make the new Income Tax law very simple and keeping this in mind, the number of words in the new law has been reduced to 2.67 lakhs, whereas the number of words in the current Income Tax law is 5.12 lakhs. 46 chapters have been reduced to 23.
At the same time, the number of tables has been increased so that people can easily understand the law by just looking at it. The number of tables has been increased from 18 to 57. The way of writing the law has also been changed and ambiguous words have been removed. There were many redundant provisions in every section and they have also been removed.
