Ayushman Vay Vandana Card: The government is providing treatment up to ₹ 5 lakh annually to senior citizens aged 70 years and above. Know who can avail it and what is its complete process.
Ayushman Vay Vandana Card: The central government launched the ‘Ayushman Vay Vandana Card’ in October 2024. Under this, senior citizens above the age of 70 years get free cashless treatment of ₹ 5 lakh annually. Irrespective of their income or whether they are already eligible for any insurance scheme or not.
This initiative was introduced as an extension of the Ayushman Bharat scheme. This scheme comes under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) and is designed keeping in mind the elderly citizens of the country. Let us know who is eligible for this scheme and how to avail its benefits.
How many people will get the benefit?
There are about 6 crore senior citizens in India, whose age is 70 years or more. They are part of about 4.5 crore families. All these people will get the benefit of Ayushman Vaya Vandana Card. Their age will be confirmed from the age recorded in the Aadhar card. The financial condition of the person will not be considered in this.
Will the total coverage be ₹10 lakh?
The most important thing about the Ayushman Vaya Vandana card is that it is open to every 70+ citizen. Like the earlier scheme (PM-JAY), there is no restriction on income limit or socio-economic status. For those who are already getting the benefit of Ayushman Bharat Yojana, this card will work as a top-up, which can take the total coverage up to ₹ 10 lakh.
This card will also be available to people enrolled under other government or private health insurance schemes, but they will have to choose between the existing benefits or this scheme.
Comprehensive treatment coverage
This scheme covers 1,961 medical procedures including 27 specialties. The best thing about it is that it also has a provision to cover pre-existing diseases from day one. It is not like general insurance, in which there is a waiting period for certain diseases. For treatment, cashless treatment facility will be provided in 30,072 listed hospitals across the country. This also includes 13,352 private hospitals.
