Axis Bank: Troubles are going to increase for Axis Bank from July 1. The bank is going to increase its ATM charges from next month. Now customers will have to pay Rs 23 instead of Rs 21. Axis Bank has announced changes in ATM transaction charges for its savings and trust account holders. These changes will come into effect from July 1, 2025 and will also affect savings accounts, NRI accounts, trust accounts and some priority and burgundy customers.

Now you will have to pay 23 rupees for every transaction

Axis Bank said that customers who make extra transactions after the free transaction limit will now be charged Rs 23 per transaction. Till now this charge was Rs 21, which means now you will have to pay Rs 2 more. This charge will be applicable on both Axis Bank and other banks’ ATMs. Apart from this, tax will be charged separately.

RBI’s new rule also implemented

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) issued a notification on March 28, 2025 stating that the ATM interchange fee will now be decided by the ATM network. Also, from May 1, 2025, if any bank customer exceeds the free transaction limit, a maximum fee of Rs 23 can be charged on him. These rules will also apply to Cash Recycler Machines (except cash deposit).

What is ATM interchange fee?

ATM interchange fee is the amount that one bank pays to another bank for using its ATM. For example, if you are a HDFC Bank customer and withdraw money from an SBI ATM, HDFC has to pay interchange fee to SBI. This amount is often recovered from the customer.

How many free transactions do you get?

As per RBI from 1st May 2025

In metro cities: 3 free transactions per month (including own bank’s and other bank’s ATMs)

In non-metro cities: 5 free transactions monthly

What is the charge of other banks

HDFC Bank

  • In metro cities: 3 free transactions
  • In non-metros: 5 free
  • Thereafter, Rs 23 for cash withdrawal and Rs 8.50 + taxes for non-financial transactions

SBI (State Bank of India)

  • New rule from 1 February 2025
  • Every customer will get 5 free SBI ATM transactions and 10 free other bank ATM transactions, irrespective of balance or location.

What should customers do?

If you frequently withdraw money from ATM, then you should be aware of these new charges. You can avoid extra charges by adopting options like digital payment, UPI, or net banking. This new charge of Axis Bank will have a special impact on those customers who often make cash transactions. Therefore, plan your transactions in time and give priority to digital options.
