New Delhi: The central government has taken a major decision. Now, millions of poor and unorganized workers will continue to receive a guaranteed monthly pension after retirement. The government has approved the continuation of the Atal Pension Yojana
(APY) until 2030-31. This was approved in a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This decision also ensures that the government will continue to provide funds for the promotion, development, and financial sustainability of this scheme. This means that workers who do not have any pension arrangements after retirement will receive a guaranteed pension of Rs 1,000 to Rs 5,000 per month after the age of 60. This pension will depend on their contributions.
As of January 19, 2026, more than 86.6 million people have joined the scheme. The government says that it is crucial to keep the public informed about the scheme, implement it effectively, and ensure its long-term success. Therefore, the government’s support will continue.
