Airport Runways Closed:  This Runway of Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) will be temporarily closed for 90 days from June 15, 2025. Let’s know why this is happening…

Delhi IGI Airport News: Preparations have started to close one of the four runways (28/10) of Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport again in June. This runway will be closed for 90 days to upgrade its landing instruments. Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu held a meeting with airlines on Tuesday and directed them to start planning for flight cancellations. This time the government wants to avoid repeating the mistakes of April, when the runway closure caused chaos at Delhi Airport.

The first attempt was unsuccessful

The first attempt to close the runway in April failed. Within four weeks, the situation went out of control as the airport could not handle about 1,400 flights every day on three runways. There was a huge disruption in the flight schedule and passengers had to face a lot of trouble. Now this second attempt starting from June 15 has been made keeping in mind the time of June-July, when there is less rush of flights in Delhi due to vacations.

Some flights will be cancelled

A senior official said that Minister Naidu held a meeting with the airlines on Tuesday morning and asked them to start preparing for the runway closure. This closure will last for about three months. The minister made it clear that this time the passengers’ trouble should be minimal. For this, he asked the airlines to prepare a plan for flight cancellation in advance and inform the passengers in advance.

Another official said that the minister has asked the airlines to suggest all possible measures to reduce the impact of the runway closure. The government and the airlines are trying together to keep the flight operations smooth. The airlines have been given time to change their schedules and make alternative arrangements.

Let us tell you that Delhi Airport is the busiest airport in the country and the closure of one runway has a big impact on operations. Now the question is whether this time the government and airlines will be able to control the situation with better planning than before, or passengers will have to face problems once again. Its picture will become clear in the coming weeks.
