Aadhaar has excluded dummy beneficiaries from the system. This has resulted in a saving of Rs 2.25 lakh crore to the exchequer. UIDAI CEO Saurabh Garg said that 300 schemes of central government and 400 schemes of state governments have been linked with Aadhaar. The government has saved Rs 2.25 lakh crore through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to the actual beneficiaries. This figure is only for central government schemes.

He said that if we add the schemes of the state governments, then this figure will increase further. Aadhaar has made the implementation of government schemes very easy. During COVID-19 the government has transferred money to the beneficiaries with the help of Aadhar. During the lockdown, people were able to withdraw cash from micro ATMs in their neighborhood shops without going to the banks. He said that it is the ease of living that Aadhaar has brought in the life of the common man.

We had allotted the first Aadhaar number on September 29, 2010. We have just touched a decade milestone. Now we can say that Aadhaar Enrollment is in a better position. Now we have set a target as to what should be done in the next 10 years. What else can we offer to make life easier? We had just concluded the Aadhaar 2.0 Conclave.

Garg said that UIDAI will focus on three-four things in the coming years. Our first priority is resident focus. We want to provide more facilities to the people. People can update their records sitting at home on their computers. 1.5 lakh postmen will go from village to village for Aadhaar update and enrollment. We are opening 50,000 centers to cover 6.5 lakh villages in the country. We are designing the app so that a smartphone user can update their Aadhaar records and even do transactions. Our focus is also on linking Aadhaar with PAN, Mobile SIM card, Ration card and Bank.
