UIDAI has clarified that adding ‘Care of’ details to the Aadhaar card is optional. The viral claim is false. The Aadhaar card is an important document for Indians, providing proof of identity and address.
The Aadhaar card, issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), is a vital document for Indians. It contains a 12-digit unique identification number that identifies an individual.
It serves as proof of identity and address for every Indian citizen. An Aadhaar card is created using biometric information (e.g., fingerprint, iris scan) and demographic information (e.g., name, date of birth, address, etc.).
It is valid nationwide and provides a uniform identity for any individual. It is used for various services, including government schemes, bank accounts, subsidies, pensions, scholarships, and mobile SIM verification. It allows the government to directly deliver benefits to beneficiaries, reducing corruption and increasing transparency.
In today’s digital India, the Aadhaar card has become an essential document for every citizen, not only proving identity but also facilitating access to government services. This is such an important document that fake news about it frequently surfaces on social media. Therefore, it’s important not to believe these claims without verifying them.
In this context, a news story went viral claiming that the husband’s or father’s name would no longer be displayed on Aadhaar cards. It was shared by many on social media. However, when verified, it was discovered that the news was fake.
According to an Alt News report, there is no truth to this claim. The report states that no such mention is made on the official UIDAI website, nor has any such information been shared on the organization’s official social media accounts.
Alt News also contacted the UIDAI helpline number. A UIDAI official denied the viral claim and clarified that no such announcement or change has been implemented.
The official also stated that adding “Care of (C/O)” details to the Aadhaar card is optional. This means that if a person wishes to add the name of their mother, father, or head of the family, they can do so by attaching their documents. However, this is not mandatory. The “C/O” section can be left blank if desired.
