8th Pay Commission Update: The biggest question is how much will the salary of central employees increase in the 8th Pay Commission. Experts believe that there will be an increase but not as big as people are thinking.

8th Pay Commission Salary And Fitment Factor: The government had announced the 8th Pay Commission in January 2025, but till now neither its chairman has been decided nor the members have been elected. Not only this, the rules and procedures have also not been finalized. Due to this, it seems difficult to implement the report of the commission by January 2026. Due to which the central employees eagerly waiting for the increase in salary may have to wait a long time.

When will the salary of central employees increase?

If we look at the 7th Pay Commission, it took about three years from its announcement to the implementation of the report. Accordingly, if the 8th Commission also moves forward at the same pace, then the change in the salary of employees and pensioners will be visible only by 2028. However, the matter of relief is that even if the implementation is delayed, it will be considered effective from January 1, 2026.

Increased tension of employees and pensioners

This delay has worried more than 1 crore employees and pensioners across the country. Employee organizations are constantly demanding this from the government. The Finance Ministry has said that opinions are being taken from the states, ministries and employee organizations and a formal announcement will be made soon.

If we look at the timeline of the previous pay commissions, the process has been long. For example, the 7th Pay Commission was constituted in February 2014 and it took about one and a half years for the report to come. After that, it got approval from the Cabinet in June 2016 and only then the salary of the employees could increase. This is the reason why this time also the employee organizations are afraid that the process of the 8th Commission may drag on. If the same pattern is repeated, it may take many years for the report to come and be implemented.

How much will the salary increase in the 8th Pay Commission?

The biggest question is how much will the salary of central employees increase in the 8th Pay Commission. Experts believe that there will be an increase but not as big as people are thinking. This time the fitment factor in the 8th Pay Commission is estimated to be between 1.83 to 2.86. In such a situation, the salary can increase by about 13% to 34%.

Overall, the expectations of the employees regarding the 8th Pay Commission are intact, but the delay in the appointment of the chairman and members has made their wait longer.
