8th Pay Commission: The news that central employees have been waiting for a long time may come soon. The government may soon take a decision regarding the formation of the 8th Pay Commission. Although there has been no official announcement yet, preparations have been completed in this direction.
According to Shiv Gopal Mishra, Staff Side Secretary of National Council-Joint Consultative Machinery, the government can approve the 8th Pay Commission soon. He said that the government is working on this issue and the announcement can be made anytime.
Another member, on the condition of anonymity, said that the Commission’s Terms of Reference (TOR) will be approved soon. Earlier it was reported that the TOR would be approved by the end of March, but now there has been some delay in it.
Why is TOR necessary?
Terms of Reference (TOR) are the guidelines on the basis of which the Pay Commission works. As soon as the TOR is approved, the government can issue an official notification for the formation of the commission. Earlier it was expected that the 8th Pay Commission would be constituted in the first week of April 2025. But now there is a possibility that its report may be postponed beyond March 2026.
Previous pay commissions usually take about 12 months to submit their reports. In March, the finance ministry had said that some important inputs were still pending.
What does 2.86 fitment factor mean?
If the fitment factor of 2.86 is implemented in the 8th Pay Commission, then it can lead to a significant increase in the basic salary of central employees. This will directly benefit lakhs of employees and pensioners. This can be a relief news for central employees. Now everyone’s eyes are fixed on when the government makes its official announcement.
